Bongo's Rock & Roll Pickles

A Taste Review by Abda Khan

I absolutely love chillies and all things spicy, and have been taste testing three products from Bongo's and can now give you the low down.

Chillimanjaro

This is a traditional Indian pickle with a generous amount of green chillies. But it is less oily than other brands and therefore has a better flavour. It has a medium/hot level of heat, and has a good all round balance between heat and a great tangy taste. A lovely accompaniment to any Asian meal but also great for livening up sandwiches or burgers. I enjoyed it in a pitta bread stuffed with salad and falafels.

Firework Jerk Dipn'ade

This is truly multi purpose. Great for using as a marinade for chicken or fish as it has a deep, rich flavour. You can eat it neat (like me!) but as it is made with harbenaros it is hot, although it's not just the heat that you taste as the other spices do come through. I loved it on crackers spread with cream cheese. Delicious! You could also use it on baked potato or in curries and stews or even to liven up boring pasta dishes.

Scream Chilli Crush

This is essentially a chilli oil made with birds eye chillies, with undertones of Thai/Chinese spices and flavours. It is hot and very versatile - use in soups, sauces, curries, noodles, stir fries, and with steaks or fish. I used it to liven up my chicken stew and dauphinoise potatoes. Really delicious!
